Thoughts and prayers for all of us on this 9/11 anniversary.
All of us were affected in some way by the tragedy and the evil that spawned it, some clearly much more than others, and it has changed our perception of many things, and I feel rarely for the better.
I pray for continued healing, education and enlightenment to help dissolve the hatred and distrust that leads to acts of evil, and a firm resolve to protect the innocent until the dark-hearted change their ways.

an amazing silver lining that resulted from the attacks was the international camaraderie that followed ... for a short while anyway.
what a day that was, and the eerie days that followed. are we kinder and gentler now?

People stopped shouting in radio ads for a while— that was nice. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

I want to laugh at Deeb's comment, but I shall refrain.
Like all of us I remember the day in horrifying crystal clarity, my thoughts and prayers go to all who were affected. _________________ www.davidmonteath.com

Driving up the NY State Thuway that day, to a funeral of all things, and watching the military vehicles racing South towards the City....is something I will never forget. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

I was a school teacher in NJ in 2001, and I had a class in the computer lab -- the kids were doing research, but I caught the story on the news feed. Many of the children had parents that worked in that area, and my brother also worked not too far from the WTC.
As the horrifying details emerged, we all had to put on a calm demeanor for the sake of the students, phone service was spotty, but I did manage to get hold of my brother to find out he was okay. A few of our students' parents were not so lucky. I still cry when I think about it. It is a day so vivid in my mind.
I also recall for some time afterward, how aware we became of planes flying overhead, and the extra anxiety of the anthrax scare.
But I do remember how kind we were to each other, all across the country, how supportive -- and how I wish we could always be that way. _________________ Diane

I remember I was waiting for my upcoming back surgery so I was already in pain. This news made my head feel numb while my body was still in pain. |

I was a few months into my first job as a full-time animator at Big Idea Productions, and had just become engaged on the first of September. It was one of the rare mornings when I was watching TV while prepping for work. When I turned to the news, they were talking about the first plane that had hit, were still operating on the assumption that it was an accident, and were showing live footage of the towers. It was only a minute or so before I saw the second plane enter the screen. The camera's view was a wide enough angle that I assumed it could have been a good distance away. When it hit the second tower, I froze, and the thought "This is no accident" began racing through my mind. I think my brain took a snapshot of the room at the same time.
It took another snapshot as I entered the studio, where I found that several TVs that had been set up in various locations. There were groups gathered around them all day as the news unfolded, and being a Christian media production company, many spontaneously gathered throughout the day to offer prayers. It was tough doing the work of producing uplifting family entertainment when we needed so much uplifting ourselves. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

I happened to be up, although in those days I usually went back to bed once I lunch-and-launched the kids to school.
My neighbor ran over in his pajamas and banged on my door— urging me to turn the TV on. I did just after the 2nd plane had hit the 2nd tower.
I recall Peter Jenning's crankiness that he wasn't able to see the direct video feed from the scene in his monitors, so he did not know when the first tower collapsed. I remember yelling in the house, all by myself— Look out! Oh no! Look! Look!
Boston was evacuated. I still have the traffic report for that day, printed out. All roads were empty, all airplanes grounded, and the trains were all stopped.
We rarely have the TV on for anything, but that TV stayed on for three days, only off when everyone was in bed. I ironed every article of clothing in the house— I couldn't just stand and watch. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |
