I've been in a wide range of bands (Hardcore Punk, Electronic, Southern Rock) and I regularly play keys, bass, and guitar and a dabbling of drums. I came up as an engineer at a post house in Boston doing the scratch tracks, and then they let me do the final takes. Just this year I started doing original music for a few of my own clients. Fun! Having a good ear can't hurt in VO. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Well, as it turns out, you're going to be here the night of my DH's wind ensemble holiday concert -- he plays tuba, too. I'll be going on Friday night, and coming to your world tour Boston stop on Saturday! He, unfortunately, won't be along, since he'll be tuba-ing that night. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I've done musical theater.
And, just got a keyboard for my bday...so I'm back on the musical train! Studied piano when I was younger, so am now having fun refreshing my memory of chords and such, and playing easy songs.
off to make a cup of tea and have a sit down at the keyboard now! _________________ Intuit and do it!

Philip,
For a man with no musical ability, you blow a pretty mean flugelhorn, evidence of which resides on my hard drive at home. _________________ Be well,

| Stella Artois is so potent it even influences people who are listening to someone trying to play a musical instrument after 6 pints of it. |

I play guitar (left handed) and sing -- well enough to have been paid to do it in the past... not well enough to keep doing it as a pro!
I would show a picture, but I can't figure out how to post one here. _________________ http://MichaelSchoen.com |

I've played violin for about 16 years now and I'm currently teaching myself how to play guitar (electric, yeah!!) I was in chorus when I was really young, and I've taken a few singing lessons every now and then. My 2 best friends have future careers in voice as well. When we all move in together it will be pretty interesting to be our neighbors! Me with the voice acting, my one friend with the Broadway stuff, and my other friend with the R&B/Pop recording career. Yeah....shall be very interesting! _________________ Lindsay Sheppard

My two cents: I play a little guitar, blues harp, sing a bit, play percussion, and play the radio if that counts.
I play in a blues band that's trying to get back together again after two and half years hiatus; and I play percussion in a small jazz ensemble--coming soon to an elevator near you. |

Piano. Generally just for my own enjoyment. Sometimes I hear a song & am compelled to pick it out on the piano in order to get it out of my head. Have no idea why. Took guitar lessons as a kid, but piano was so much easier that guitar never "stuck." And oh, how I wish I could sing! _________________ Mary |

I sing (well, with a name like mine, how could I not!) - musical theatre, small ensembles, choir. _________________ Elaine

I studied voice and piano from age eleven through most of my twenties, and thirties, took some guitar lessons, did lots of musicals both singing and dancing, cabarets, opera workshops, recitals, belonged to choruses throughout grade, and high school, church choirs. I got into blues, jazz, and R&B staarting from when I was a teenager.
I vocalize most days as part of my voice warm up. |

When I was very young I took piano lessons. Then in about 5th or 6th grade I started with the trombone, which I got pretty good at. I even did a couple of paid gigs when I was still in high school. I also dabbled in guitar and bass but was never very good at them. The high school marching band had enough trombones but a shortage of sousaphones so the band leader taught me to play tuba/sousaphone. After my sophomore year I went back to trombone and continued to play for a couple of years in college but after getting involved in radio I kind of let the music slide and have barely touched my horn in more than 35 years.
Every time I go to a concert I get the urge to start playing again, but it usually passes before I get around to it. As it happens, I started composing this post while waiting for a friend to stop by the house so we could drive to New Haven to see a concert with Chielli Minucci & Special EFX with guest Jay Rowe (whom I like) and Marion Meadows (whom I don't especially care for).
[6 hours later ...]
Well, my friend showed up, we went to the show and it was outstanding. I even enjoyed Marion's set. Now I'm again inspired to grease up my trombone and start playing. Maybe I'll do it this time, _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I'm not surprised to see so many musical people on this board.
I have a degree in music performance on flute. I also sing and play keys.
It's very nice to see a classical guitarist here (mcm, hi!). Performing with guitar is one of my favourite combinations.
With all these musos, I reckon' there could easily be a jam session at the next VOICE/voiceover meetup! |
