okay it actually is better than I first thought, some observations:
it sounds best in my relatively untreated room, through the Apogee Duet/Macbook.
Here's an audio sample:

...it doesn't sound as good in my Vocal Booth through the Avalon 737 at high gain into my PC.
There seem to be two factors. It gets more juice through the Apogee, and the open room seems to flatter the sound, whereas the booth seems to suck the life out of it.
Conversely, my condensers seem to sound better in the booth.
Go figure. I may hang onto this as my travel mic.
Is anyone out there using a condenser as a travel mic (other than an Senn shotgun) and doing so successfully?
I know some are, but am wondering if extraneous noise/room ambience in hotel rooms cause problems. I'm pretty certain that this dynamic would minimize background noise, etc |

I travel with my Rode NT-2... and a hotelroom always has plenty of pillows to make a decent little pile to bury the microphone in. Works for me everytime. |
