Very cool. It's all toll free now, huh? Laugh

I thought this was going to be another one of those "can't say today" posts. Toll-free phone numbers starting with "888" can be a bit of a nuisance, but car prices like $26,888 (twenty-six thousand eight eighty-eight) are the bane of my existence, especially because there are usually three similarly* priced cars jammed into the same commercial.

*"Similarly" is no picnic either.

If you turn the three "8's" on their side you get three times infinity.

In China, the symbol for the number "8" (as a symbol for infinity) is a good luck charm for attracting money. Some people throughout the world actually carry the number symbol written upon a piece of paper in their wallet and are said to have received large sums of money within days. Gasp

There of course is a caveat here: Be careful what you wish for; as in Newton's Third Law - For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

With three "8's", it means that sacks and sacks of money times three will be coming to our doorstep, SOON! Right? Wink cool

Toodles

Gee, while we're on the topic of what the Chinese think of the number 8, in Mandarin 8 is pronounced "bah", and so is the word for "father". That is why August 8th, or 8/8 (bah bah), is Father's Day in Taiwan.

And I know this because my Dad's Dad lived in China in the 1920's and 30's (until the Japanese took over) as a top man in General Motors Asia division, and the family always called him Baba, even back here in the States.

Bah humbug,

B
