OK I just bought a Macbook Pro....on my desktop PC for quick down and dirty stuff I love Sound Forge....it serves me well. What is out there that is comperable to Sound Forge for a Mac? (I'm sure this has been covered before)

I've seen people use SoundForge 8 on a modern MacBook Pro within a Windows-emulated OS... via BOOTCAMP... maybe that's the way to go for you? |

Another option is BIAS Peak. Pat Fraley uses this so it should be a good alternative. Also, you could use Pro Tools LE as well as CuBase by Steinberg. And, to really get down and dirty, try Audacity. It's free and easy to use.
Good Luck. |

I'll pipe in with my usual recommendation for s/a /?id=5012" target="_blank" class="postlink">Sound Studio. It's my "go to" two-track editor and what I use for about 95% of my work. I've made edits that have even surprised myself, thinking they could never be done. I find it most analogous to tape editing, which is why I like it. Twisted Wave has also been recommended, but I haven't tried it yet, as Im quite happy with Sound Studio and have never had the issues that a few folks have had.
For multitrack work, I'm a recent convert to Cubase (from ProTools) and I'm very impressed with that, as well. |

Cubase is overly complex, but often comes free with hardware so there are users out there in VO land. I have to give my vote for Twisted Wave. Sound Studio is good if they've fixed the bugs in the software.
I think those programs most closely give you an editing experience to Soundforge, a quick easy 2 track editor. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I'm also still looking for a Mac editor for my MacBook portable rig.
I don't need multi-track capability very often, but occasionally need maybe up to 6 tracks to mix in SFX and music.
Most programs either offer only one or two tracks, or at the other extreme way more than I need.....I like Twisted Wave but it appears to have only one-track capability.
Any suggestions for the right fit for the above parameters?
Suppose I could just spend $199 and get Logic Express but the cheapskate in me hates to spend $$$ for all those extra functions I'll never use.... |

Rob,
Take a look at Audacity, which has the advantage of being free. It does multi-track mixing, and quite well. _________________ Be well,

Just learn to use Garageband if you want a free multitrack editor for Mac. Audacity does work but I find it buggy at times.
Check out all of these free tutorials on Apple software
The tutorial on Podcasts is probably the most applicable for VO production when it comes to mixing in SFX and Music, just ignore the part about adding in images for enhanced Podcasts.
It is a VERY basic tutorial, but here is one with more information that should really help you with your workflow in Garageband. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
