...Popped up today in the Guardian.
My favorite snippet:
Quote: | Hamilton's partner at Wave, Johnny Bern, notes that everyone mistakenly believes that they could perform voiceovers.
"People think it's just reading out loud," he says. "But normal people who go into the studio and read a script soon realise that they sound like a redneck with a turkey stuck down their throats." |
...Plus a mention of Orson Welles' prima donna performance. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

Good publicity for Sam Delaney and his agent Hobsons International. I did enjoy the perspective too, a lot of voice overs are truly (to use a Brit expression) upthemselves whereas most people couldn't care less. How does does it go? Oh yes. "Do you realise how important I think I am?" The response is clear "GET A JOB YOU WASTER!"
One thing I have noticed over here is that the good voice overs tend to be very level headed about what they do and don't take it too seriously, obviously they do take doing what they do well seriously. If my limited experience of the top voices in the US is anything to go by they tend to be the same. My last phone conversation with MR LA Big-Rich VO largely revolved around how pleased he was that his 250 year old pick-up truck was still working .............Oooooooooo aren't we showbiz! |

My pleasure, Katrina. With all the native references, I almost felt as if I was reading one of Banksey's posts.
I liked the breakdown of "accents that sell". Not that I can really take advantage here in the states (Yes, Banks, my Scot still needs work), but I find it interesting. (Then again, I could always dredge up my Ringo impression in the unlikely event that anyone ever asks me to do a Liverpudlian...) _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice.
