We work with professionals who seem to think we are desperate amateurs.

"Taxi! Take me to Tower Bridge!"

"8 quid Guv"

"Mmm, it's fine but let's try the Tower of London"

"Here you go Guv, that's 15 quid"

Hi Ian,

Audio is being uploaded now and will be ready for you in a few minutes. My original file was supplied to you as requested "corporate style" with the script read as written and some alternative lines for better English.

Under normal circumstances if I have done as I am requested and have made no errors then I receive a request from the client giving me direction on how to read the script and there are changes to the script a further fee is payable.

It works like this - I am booked for a corporate job for my minimum session fee of $300, the client will either direct over the ISDN, over the phone or put specific direction on the script. If after a few days the client decides he would like a different style in parts or to change some words I am booked for another session and paid my minimum session fee once more.

I have recorded sections of the script once more for you and also recorded the changes. The original fee agreed was $150 and I will not charge for the new recording with new direction and changes to script. Please be sure, should you decide to use me in the future, that your clients understand that changing their minds, adding to or changing the scripts or giving direction long after I have done the job are all acceptable but there will be a cost.

Best regards

Philip

I have now done the client 2 favours, accommodated his budget and allowed his client to direct with hindsight.

In the pro world my session would've involved -
Studio 1 hour - $300.00
My fee - $340.00
Client time, producer time and their travel expenses, let's add a nominal $50.00 for all that.

Total cost $690. Actual cost including 2nd session $150.00.

Still $150 is better than nothing isn't it? No! The short term gain has already been over shadowed by the long term cost.
