Picture this:
A brand new Avalon 737 mic preamp...I WON the auction! $1,537.00..oh boy oh boy!! After a fun filled day of exchanging e mails w/ the seller and feeling comfortable about the deal...I DID IT! ...What did I do?? I broke my rule and stepped outside my "paypal ONLY" box. The seller, who lives in Phoenix AZ, offered to have me use his UPS shipper number and send him money orders for the total amount- next day service. Hmmmm..I would have my new Avalon in a few short days if I went THIS ROUTE!!!
O.K... said the dumb@## in my head!
Off I drove to the nearest UPS store...(and off my $1,537.00 went as well.)
After several days..no Avalon!...a few more days...time to investigate! After much on-line searching, phone calls to UPS, police, Fedreal Law Enforcement..etc..HERE IS THE SAD TRUTH:
Mr. James B. Cater in Phoenix Arizona (I have his address, phone number, web sites, myspace & YouTube info...) is an internet criminal who sits at home posting false items for sale. Curious what this upstanding individual looks like...on YouTube search SIR JC. He claimed he has sent my money back....2 weeks ago (yeah right).
I've learned a lesson...PAYPAL is my friend ...James Carter is not.
Goodbye $$$$$..I needed you. Cry

What a bummer...

In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...

Don't tempt me...As you might imagine, EVERY thought has crossed my mind! Oh well...He will answer for this one day down the road. Now I must seek out a cheaper mic pre. Thinking about the Focusrite VoiceMaster Pro.??

I will share my stupidity even further....
It was his first time selling on e bay under the ID he was using....(ROYALTY8192) he also uses SIR JC and jccontest@jamesbcarter.com

At least he made us think it was his first time...
I would NEVER try to put this on anyone unless it was CONFIRMED TO BE A CRIMINAL ACT. This is why I am sharing his name and city with everyone.

Just a heads-up from one VO guy...to the VO-BB family.

man, rodney, i'm hurting for ya and i don't even know you.

don't let the #*%@!! off the hook, though. one of my friends here was scammed buying jewelry from a woman in michigan a few years ago. it took her a long time, but my friend finally did get the scammer arrested and brought to court.

Find a second hand TLAudio 5051 Ivory Series Tube pre (on eBay Embarrassed )or maybe consider a DBX 286A, the latter being sold for around $ 200... I never liked the Voicemaster Pro on any mic... but hey, that's just me.

Good luck with everything!

If needed, I will be available for the VO-BB Team once someone forges the release forms for the asylum and get me outta there...

if you have his address, or the address you sent everything off too, the cops should be able to track him down from that. even if it was a PO box or box at a UPS store, he would have had to have filled out a form with his real address. maybe HE was stupid enough to pay the fee for the box with a credit card.

oh man i feel for ya. good luck finding this scum!

see if you can find others who have been scammed by him (sounds like this isn't his first ebay scam). maybe someone has gotten a little closer in another investigation.

Thanks Jim..
The Phoenix police have informed me that ALL INTERNET related scams/false Ebay sales..etc...are FEDERAL crimes. The local police won't touch it. FBI office tells everyone to file a report on-line at ic3.com. There is soooo much of this going on out there that they do not have the manpower to go after everyone. Makes ya scratch yur head !! AND SCREAM!
