Hi all -- first time post -- looking for some constructive (or otherwise, per your "bent") commentary on my new promo demo (check out the commercial demo while on site as well). I find peer review to be the most helpful and after listening to the breadth of talent here, I certainly look forward to any feedback!
Best, Tim

Tim—
It's good form to post a direct link to your demos, or in this case of Flash players, your Demo Page.
Asking people to find your demos on your website isn't going to get you the numbers of listens you'd like, I'll bet.
Here's a link to Tim's demos page.

Hey Tim, I listened to the Promo Demo. I liked the difference I heard between the TV-show and TV-news stuff— nice separation of style.
What I didn't hear was what Banksey calls "Why You?"
Nice voice, good approach. It seemed to be lacking conviction in places. I just really didn't believe you, get excited, whatever.
Be careful on your pronunciation of the letter "W".
Overall, I liked the News Promo stuff the best.
What you need to figure out why I should listen to you, and why I should hire you and not Jeff McNeal. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I was trying to think of something constructive to say and then I remembered something. Watch this clip and listen very carefully, if nothing else, enjoy the song.

I like the song, every musician fits nicely to support what Sharlene is doing. Nothing out of the ordinary at all. Gestalt - the sum is greater than the individual parts. Most people will not notice that the Trumpet sounds like a Flugel Horn. I know it does and if I show you the video of me in front of my mic playing the Flugel Horn, you'd know too. Trouble is, the video of me playing is unwatchable because it is mind numbing, it's really, really dull! The video was about me playing the Flugel Horn, the song was NOT about me.
You've made your promo sound demo, what you need to do is make some promos and then edit the best into a demo.

A successful Voice Over has a massive ego, for the most part, under control. |

Whereas the Flugel Horn sat beautifully in the mix.
I would just like to add that of all the posts I've written this has been the most recent. |
