VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

I'm going to buy some different software (Adobe Soundbooth or Twisted Wave), but my Mac 10.3 (Panther) won't handle the new applications. I'd like to upgrade to Leopard 10.5, but don't know if I can make the jump easily.

Any thoughts or experiences?

If there's a Mac store anywhere near you I'd go and see, or call, the folks at the Genius Bar. I'm thinking they'll demure or even say "not a good idea", but I could be wrong. That's such a huge leap, and you need a fair amount of memory power to run 10.5 ... power that's a drop in the bucket in today's Macs, but not so much in the machine you're likely using.

Plus Adobe Audition doesn't make a Mac version. Does Soundbooth work with Macs?

I would take the first step to 10.4 it's very capable with most every application, and is less bulky then 10.5:

If you have a fast video card you can run Logic 8, it sounds great.

From what I've seen, it should be fairly easy to upgrade. The question is - what kind of hardware (processor/RAM, etc) do you have? I've only run up to Tiger on the Macs I have, but Apple apparently says it needs at least a G4.

I am running 10.5.6 on a G5 imac, a 1.2 GHZ MacBook and a 2.2 ghz Mac mini. I run Apple Logic Express as my main recording software and Pro Tools 10.4.6 as and when required.

Never had a problem with speed or capabilities.

As others have said, try a Mac Genius or have a look at a compatibility chart on the Apple main site

I'm running a Power Mac G5--1.8 dual--2GB Ram--60 GB memory left on the main hard drive and 230GB left on the external.

I'm thinkin' I've got plenty to run whatever, and I am a bit squeamish about Leopard...Tiger might be the best option, or maybe a relatively docile housecat that's been fixed. Wink

Definitely go Tiger, wait until Snow Leopard comes out (although it will likely be Intel machines only).
Soundbooth rocks because of the included powerful noise reduction tools, Twisted Wave is half the cost but lacks in the bells n whistles.

Says 10.4.11, so you are good to go with Tiger. Ditto on a new drive for Tiger, makes it painless (and safe), just migrate your user account. MIGHT need to install a couple updated versions of a Hobo Tounge

As an avid Cool Edit Pro user, I'm searching for the next best thing. I'm running an iMac 2.6 Ghz with 2GB RAM with Pro Tools being the current software. Not to upset any PT users, b/c I know it is a helluva a program, but just for convenience sake...I wanted something I'm used to and comfortable with...so I checked into Soundbooth and downloaded the trial version...

Needless to say, I was very pleased...pretty close to CEP with most features and simplistic enough for me. My question is this:

Is this Adobe's answer to Audition for the Mac or will there be an Audition version released for Mac in the near future? I certainly don't want to drop $199 on Soundbooth when I could get Audition, should it come, for a little more. Didn't know so I thought I'd ask. Also, does anyone know how many tracks Soundbooth supports???
