Hi everyone here are some cool videos from harmony-central site from the NAMM show. It's time for some new toys like the Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56. I want one but probably cost thousands does not look cheap also I am liking the Cubase 5. So what kind of new toys will you get? http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM09/?src=3NL9AN&ZYXSEM=0&Prime= |

Liquid Technology puts famous preamplifiers on your first two channels
Focusrite has achieved long-term fame for their revered microphone preamplifiers - and most recently they've emerged as a different kind of leader with the Liquid technology. With their innovative Convolution DSP Liquid modeling method - which marries the analog and digital worlds - Focusrite has been able to create tremendous models of famous pieces of outboard gear. The Liquid Saffire 56 is their first FireWire audio interface to feature this technology - and it effectively builds 10 famous, highly sought-after preamplifiers right into your interface, on the first two channels. Using the included software, you can dial in the perfect tone using models based on gear from Avalon, Focusrite, HELIOS, Manley, Milenia, Neve, Pultec, Telefunken, and Universal Audio. All those flavors give you a tremendous palette to select from, as you work to choose the perfect preamplifier for each source. |

I was searching around after watching the video and also saw it on Sweetwater. It does have a pretty hefty price tag. I wonder how well it really emulates those preamps. If it does what it says and those 7 top notch preamps work like the real models then that what be a really good price. Not in my budget right now. |

Speaking of new toys from NAMM, I posted a few videos I shot on my blog.
There's a tour of MXL mics, tour of ADK mics, hands on with the Alesis ProTrack, and the Summit Everest channel strip, with more coming as I get the time to edit and upload... _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Great videos George, I'll take 2 of the Summit Everests wrap em up. I wish. You mentioned the MXL video but I didn't see it on the page unless I am missing something. I was interested in the MXL since I use one of those mics. I would do almost anything to go to one of those NAMM shows. All those cool toys. I want them all. |

They work so well that both the studios I saw using them sent them back. Liquid Channel is interesting, but not quite ready for prime time IMO.
I had two in my own place, and they lasted about two hours before sending them back to the dealer.
BTW: Save for their red and ISA series, Focusrite has been somewhat lacking over the past few years. When building my project room, I wanted to use some items from their platinum series. Compared to the MP-20, the Focusrite preamps sounded horrible (and they were nearly 2X the cost). I wish they'd put the same care into the design of their midrange products as they did their higher end stuff (doesn't have to compete with a $2000-3000 unit, but ought to compete against a preamp of similar cost). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Yoda, interesting to hear how bad those were. Your right, if they are the top end products they better deliver.
George thanks for the video's sure would like to try all those mics to hear how nice they sound. |

Yeah Dan. I remember Mike Sinterniklaas telling me to snag a pair for my own place since he was loving them in his studio. Fast forward a few months later, and he's chucked them all due to maintenance and performance issues (IIRC, testing a TLM103 with it set to emulate an Avalon sounded nothing like the real thing).
There are devices which are swiss army knives in the studio, and they're insane on their own, and frighteningly realistic when emulating other devices, but you're going to pay dearly for them. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Sorry to hear they were so bad. That video really sucked me in to wanting one thankfully I couldn't afford it right now anyways, and now I know not to even look at it. |

Just got an Alesis ProTrack to review, blogged about it if you are curious.
I recorded a bit so you can hear what it can sound like. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
