Hi Liz, CC and everyone else.
Thanks for your concern.
Thankfully, the fires are about 700-800km from here. I'm feeling a bit shellshocked by the devastation. Most of us are.
166 people dead so far and they expect the death toll to rise.
The pieces of s**t who lit these fires are murderers. Nothing less.
I don't know if there's anybody I know in the fires.
I did have some family in one of the fire areas once upon a time, but I don't know if they are still there.
The temperatures across Vic and SA have been around 45C (113F) with strong winds. Perfect bushfire weather. We hit 49C (120F) in Burra one day last week.
It's cooler now which is great, but it's expected to get back into the 40's next week.
SA has been fortunate in that we haven't had any major fires so far.
We've got our bushfire action plan ready, as has everyone we know around here.
Holding our collective breaths.

Good to see your doing good so far.
I was looking an ABC.net.au and saw where your fire fighters were holding the line so far. _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"

Thanks Ed,
I haven't really had a chance to catch up on the news yet. I only just got up a little while ago.
Hopefully, there might be some good news today. |

I heard from Ian "Lofty" Fulton who is OK too. What a tragedy. We had our fires in SoCal, but this seems many magnitudes worse. Hope rains come soon. _________________ Gregory Best

Steve,
Glad you're ok mate. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I caught it on the news.
This is a truly devastating thing to happen. If anyone is able to help out the Aussies who have not lost their lives, but have lost their homes, businesses and communities - please visit http://www.redcross.org.au/vic/services_emergencyservices_victorian-bushfires-appeal-2009.htm to donate. (I hope it's ok to post this here)
You've probably heard that these are the worst bushfires for the country ever, so if you can spare some dosh, please lend a hand. Thanks mates!!! |

Thankfully, the situation is easing in the Victorian bushfires.
They had some rain overnight and while the danger is far from over it has given firefighters some relief.
Your positive thoughts must have worked!
Thanks for posting that link, Matto.
So many people have been digging deep to help out the fire victims. The red cross has raised more than $45M from donations and they're overwhelmed with offers of clothes, food, etc.
A clothing manufacturer in Burra (Bullrush) has donated $25,000 worth of clothing to the appeal.
It's a pity that it takes a disaster like this to get people working together. |

How true and how very sad.
I'm glad you are OK Steve.
My brother -in-law and his family live 5km from the fires and they were on alert to move at a moments notice. They are renting while their house is built, so they were OK about getting out if it had come too close, thankfully it didn't, although two co-workers have lost absolutely everything they owned. One of them is in total and understandable denial, wanting to go home and water the plants, feed the cat etc........its just not there now. _________________ www.davidmonteath.com
