I run an ad in the UK/European trade press and it reads as follows

..........just another voice over

www.philipbanks.com

tel 01542 839230

That's it. I've been running this ad for some time and have honestly lost count of the number of calls I've received from people looking for voice over work.

Two essential skills for any Voice Overist are the ability to read and the ability to understand.

If you look at my ad, does it imply I'm hiring? If you saw an ad with a website address and were looking for work would you check the site? Does my site suggest I'm for hire or hiring?

"Philip, would you use me for voice over work?"

"No"

"Why not?"

"Because you're thick!"

So, I'd think they'd at least check out your site for the straight scoop.

Philip,

As you know, I'm thick and even I can figure out from your ad what you're about. Laugh

There are those who get "it" and those who do not. I get "it". But I am thick and dense.

Maybe you ought to add -- "Hire Me, NOW!" Or, maybe not.

Does this mean you don't need my voice over services?

I get at least three e-mails a year from folks asking if I "need another voice", and they're not even responding to an ad. No, these aren't people asking for advice on how to get started in VO, like Philip's respondents they just assume I can put them to work.

Phillip and Dave, can you?

Hey I get the same calls, are these people making the rounds...? I am always looking for work too, but sheesh... I read this post and get two phone immediately thereafter touting "...I used to work for Cxexax Channel and saw your company's name on spots and programs, are you hiring any more voice guys/gals"?

"No. Contact Phillip or Dave." Is my answer.

"Why?", they quip.

"I am looking for work as a Voice Actor myself, are you hiring"? I retort.

...and it goes on.

Something is in the air.

Thanks Banksey and Dave.

Toodles

I see this as just another example of society's ongoing oppression of those of us who are on the thick side.

Hmm?

"Thick" means what in the UK?

Oh.

Never mind.

You've got it and for those who haven't. Thick people are those who when encountering a sign "Wet Paint", do their best to comply.
