For some reason, my TIF image files are associated with my eFax program. I need them to be associated with my Photoshop program again.
How do I do that? I'm home now on Windows XP SP2.

Thanks.

Try going into Windows explorer, find the TIF file in question, right-click it, and it should give you an option to open with a list of programs. If you want all TIF's to open with Photoshop, there is a box at the bottom of the list that you can check.

Hope this works for you,

Jim

you should just be able to:

1. right-click on it
2. select "Open With.." then "Choose Program"
3. Choose Photoshop from the list of installed programs and check a little box that tells Windows to always use your selection to open this type of file from now on.

And that should do it.

that did it. thanks, guys.
still has "eFax document" as the type and the little eFax icon, but at least it's associated with PS. Maybe tomorrow when I restart that will change.

Remove efax from your PC ....from add/remove programs....then re-install it...while installing un-check the box where it mentions all image formats to be opened/recognized by efax......

that should work

I have this problem when I install cooledit or Adobe Audition ...all my mp3s are shown as their default icon images.......

Most programs try to hijack the file type associations. Quicktime is not only notorious for this, but everytime you open QT it wants to re-associate the file types to it's GUI.

Just remember to right click and re-associate (for audio fixes, go to Windows Media Player, FileTypes, and click associate all...). As for the icon, you can also do that with the Right Click on file in the 'associate with:" box.

good luck.
