|
|
Some guy calling himself "Jeff Lobel" called (via Skype, so I can't call him back, he said) called 3 times (first 2 times, I wasn't home).
He started right in by grilling me about my experience, how long have I been in the business, but I stopped him and told him I needed some info about him, first. I don't know any "Jeff Lobel", and can't find any audio guy by that name on the net, so tell me first about the project, please.
What he is doing is working on the marketing (has just taken over from some other guy, he said) for an allergy product that is launching a website, but they're looking to grow in the future. Right now they want some internet coverage and then will make a TV and Radio commercial, he said. He found my name on SoundImage.com, and I appeared to be the only one with a working phone number, he said.
What they are looking for, he said, is someone with a good, strong sneeze.
I told him to go jump in a lake and hung up.
I wish to death that I had had my wits about me enough to get some real contact info. I'd like to hang this creep out to dry. I was just so astonished that I was actually getting The Sneeze audition phone call, I kinda lost my cool.
That SoundImage listing is a million years old— it's my pre DB Cooper contact info with my HOME NUMBER. I'm fixing that now.
Jeepers— this guy just keeps going and going and going. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I was just about to post under the subject "Can you pull over and sneeze?" when I saw your post, Deebs.
Yep, I got the call too, a couple of hours ago while in the car. Number came up unavailable, I answered and that was the name he gave me. He told me he found me on Production Hub and he was working with a casting agency in Texas looking for good voice talent for a project - was this a good time to talk?
"Actually, I'm driving right now", I said, "but I can listen and drive".
"Ok, well then let me tell you about the project and if you're interested, when you get to your destination we can talk more".
"Sure!"
So he's goes into the spiel about this great new allergy product that's being released and what he needs is someone with a hearty sneeze.
"A what?"
"I need to know how you sneeze naturally", he says. "Do you have a full blown explosive sneeze or a little wimpy sneeze?"
At this point I remember about all of the sneezing posts and almost laughed out loud but said "I really don't sneeze much - but I can fake it".
"Oh no, he says, it has to be an authentic sneeze, why don't you sneeze for me now just so we can see?"
"Well, actually I'm driving - that probably wouldn't be good"
"Oh, well can you PULL OVER and sneeze for me?"
At that point I said, "no I really can't and for some reason this sounds familiar to me - and I can't quite figure out why... why does this sound familiar - have I heard this before somewhere"?
"oh, I don't know", he says.
So while I mused out loud as to where I could POSSIBLY have heard this before I asked for his number to call him back. Of course he said it would be better if he called back in an hour.
Naturally he didn't.
I just can't get over "CAN YOU PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SNEEZE FOR ME"
That cracked me up... |

Heh. Wait till you get the call from the guy who wants you to pretend you're being tickled by another guy.
The sad part is, I did it! I made a hundred bucks for thirty seconds pretending I was being tickled by some other dood. That was a long time ago. But I thought it would be a good method acting exercise...and what the hey, I made a C-note in half a minute. Yeah, I'm a slut. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

Here's how it went for me today:
"Hi, my name is Jeff and I'm a casting agent in Las Vegas."
"I'm new at this, but I'm helping a colleague out, he just hired me last week, actually, and we want saw your demos online and are very impressed with your talent and experience."
"Are you home? Is this a good time? I'd like to talk to you about an exciting opportunity."
"Are you home right now?" (No, I'm in the car.) "Will you be home soon?" (He must have called me after he called Melissa.)
"We're casting a commercial for an allergy product that will shoot in the next 3 to 6 months." (This is where I became certain that this guy was not legit.)
"We're looking for someone who has a good sneeze. When you sneeze, is it a big one?" (Sometimes, I suppose.) "Do you feel a tickle first before it starts, and does it feel better afterward?" (This is where I finally called him out as being a perv, and for wasting my time.) _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

It was a long time ago...about a year and a half. That's a long time ago in "VO years".
I donno...folks. Get 'em to pay a hundred bucks deposit. Then send 'em "Ah". After that send 'em, "Choo!", for completion of the project. At the very least you'll get a hundreds bucks for a good "Ah". And c'mon! When's the last time you've had a good "Ah" AND, a few bucks for a nice dinner out?

So, when he asks if you have a big one (referring to sneeze), ask him calmly if he honestly thinks that'll help his tiny tadger. Then hang up. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

We can blame this all on the sad state of our economy. This what happens when these perverts are out of work, and have too much time on their (hands). |

Todd, please don't push.
And apparently this guy has a sneeze fetish.
To further corroborate: He also asked me "Is this a good time?" _________________ DBCooperVO.com
