I awoke this morning to find NO emails in my inbox. Not one. Nothing. Checked my website and it was gone. So gone. Made phone calls, sent emails (thanks gmail & yahoo) and no reply from my host except that my account had been disabled. No warning except a phone call from them YESTERDAY where they left a message to contact them at a number they never answer. No emails about it, nothing. Well, they've not been very good hosts over the years but I stuck with them just because it's what I knew. NO MORE. Year of the spine and all that.

I just got my email back up, hopefully, but who knows what I missed today. I'm saddened b/c it's been a very. very busy couple of weeks and there were directions I was waiting on. Hopefully the site will be fully operational by the end of the evening or early morning. So dang sad. I also run several other sites (my yoga site, the Boston Blues Festival site and others) and it's going to take time to get those all sorted out as well. THANK GOODNESS I back up everything. Also thank goodness it's margarita night and a big Celtics game or I'd have been crying all day. Fingers crossed the new host rocks.

Argh! I can't imagine. I had the AT&T trunk line go down in my area for several hours the other day and no email in or out, but a dead website!!! Yikes.

Did you break a mirror, cross a black cat or walk under a ladder because your luck has been real bad lately. I hope things get better. BIG HUG

I was in Great Barrington the other day, going to drop off my wifes new CD to Berkshire Living magazine, with hopes for a review and write up.

Gone. All the offices were empty and the landlord said they moved out over the weekend, no forwarding address. The phone is disconnected with no forwarding number.

Great little magazine. POOF! Times are tough.

Wow Mandy, I feel for you. What an absolute headache. One website I was with went away, but at least i had some warning.

They should have sent you an email or some written notification as well, so you could have got on it.

Good luck getting back up to speed! First, have some liquid refreshment to fortify yourself for the task!

Mandy made a great point - save a copy of your web site locally if you can. Or have your web person back it up and send you a copy. Just make sure you have a back up, including images. And if there's a database behind it, get a copy of that, too.

On that note, if someone set it up for you, get all the account info, including host name, registrar, account credentials such as account number, user names and passwords and any other info such as database name, administration user name and password.

My site is back up, my email seems ok and I did the right thing: as soon as I realized there was a problem I came right here and updated my email to my gmail acct so I wouldn't miss a beat. Phew.

I paid the cruddy host for the month and found a new one I paid for the long-run and I will take my time transferring everything over. While this is a crappy thing, it's also a reminder to be in charge. Ask questions if you have them. Follow up. Back up! Thank gawd I did that. One of my clients who I do web work for, however, has never listened and may have lost some important stuff. That's ok...everyone needs to learn and be accountable. OK, it's not ok but I've warned you since 1997. Just sayin'.

edited to change the date b/c my brain wasn't working when I wrote this.
