Anybody using an Musicam Roadrunner ISDN Codec for VO work? I have an old one that I've never hooked up. Any thoughts?

It's a good beast. A very useful bit of kit. I keep a few in reserve in case any of our front line codecs dies a sudden death. (or Mr Al K. Ida decides to attack Soho and we need to scurry off and set up a temporary studio somewhere else!)

the roadrunner has been my career lifeline for the past 12 years. after the initial learning curve, it has provided continuous faithful service. musicam has always been available with straight answers that even a non-tech such as i can follow. ...and i've never missed the second stereo channel all the other, more expensive, boxes make you pay for.

it's not as glamorous at the other boxes, but it works...and works...and works...and, therefore, so do i.

It is a good, reliable old box. You pretty much can't go wrong with it. It does have a noisy fan, so keep it out of the booth. And you must get a Phantom power supply if you want to plug a mic directly into it, but most of us wouldn't do that, would we...
A good used one is about the best deal going for an ISDN codec. You just might need a little help to set it up, it can be pretty cryptic.

Thank you all! That's what I hoped I would hear about the Roadrunner.

Just be prepared to be very PATIENT when programming this unit.
It can be very frustrating, compared to the Telos products. I just worked on a client's unit today, and it had me a bit loopy. It does come pre-programmed with a slew of presets that program it for use with Telos Zephyrs and MPEG 2 Mono 128. Preset 19 is the one to use...
