Call me, Mate.

I grew up in Hawaii.— it's the state motto:

"The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness"

Wow. I just had a flashback to the old French ALM lessons. "Ecoutez et Repetez. Listen and repeat."

Well done, Deebs. You must have been a teacher in a previous life.

From Hawaii to Maine. Talk about a climate change, Deebs. Spent enough time between Guam and Hawaii to get really sick and tired of being called a "haole".

That's about right, Jeff. Although folks in Hawaii always said it with much more flair. On Guam it was just, "Hey, howlee!" So tres gouche. But of course, on an island where people thought Spam (the actual meat in a can) was a delicacy, I had so few expectations.

Being called it is one thing— getting pounded for it was another. Intermediate School was an episode in overcoming terror.

Why did you want to know about this, Jeff?
I was happy to discover 2 Hawaii quarters in my pocket this morning— and they have the motto on them. It made me wonder if that was what prompted your question!
