Isn't it against the law for someone not to consider a non-union v/o for a union job (i.e., not even allow them to submit), because they don't want to deal with the T-H paperwork???

The only reason a signatory would consider using a non-union talent is if they cannot find ANY Union actor to the part. Now, of course this is a subjective business, but the producers are supposed to be picking from the Union pool first - then look outside if they can't find what they want.
It really doesn't have anything to do with dealing with the Taft-Hartley paperwork - belived me, if they are signatory (I was for a while) they are used to dealing with paperwork! _________________ Playing for a living...

I'm non-union and I have done several union gigs a year for over 20 years here in town, and now that I have ISDN I've done a handful this past year for cities like Atlanta, and Seattle and I haven't filled out a Taft Hartley form in more than 15 years for anybody. I don't think they bother anymore.

Interesting Bruce... how do you do that? I was told by the union that the next union gig I have to do, I have to join. I've only done one through my agent so far, and they did the waiver paperwork for me. |

I'm in a right to work state (there are 11 of them??) where you have the choice of going union or not. It's best not to so you can work both kinds of jobs.
If you're in a place like New York (yes?) you probably don't have a choice. Sorry.
