Who has their phone service as part of their cable package?
Are you happy?
I tried getting internet service thru my phone company and that was a disaster. What's it like with the shoe on the other foot? _________________ DBCooperVO.com

DB, we just added the phone service a couple of weeks ago with Time Warner/ Road Runner. Initially the service did not support fax. Now it does. They were running a special with 3 free months after a $9.99 installation charge. Works great, love the free long distance and the caller id on the TV. We also have the turbo charge internet and getting great data speed and very reliable.
cheers,
Jeff |

we had it years ago and hated it. for four days i had no phone service, and could not get a straight answer as to why. they either didn't have a record of the problem, or they're going to send someone out to fix it (but never did), or said they didn't see any problem. and at that time my son was susceptible to having febrile seizures... so we needed to be able to call 911.
suffice to say i canceled my cable company phone service and internet service within days and went back to phone company phone service and signed up for their internet service. Then as soon as phone company tv service was available, we signed up for that too and haven't looked back. all three services from the phone company are great! we've never had a problem (knock on wood).
every few months cable calls wanting to know if i would switch back. i politely tell them "no way". the experience just left a bad taste... even years later. _________________ Jim Feldman

Look at Magic Jack. No I'm serious I hear good things about it.
I had phone with Comcast, they could never get the billing right. It was cheaper at the phone company for both phone and high speed internet so I went that way. With the new fiberoptic lines the speed is really nice. |

I love Comcast for internet but I've heard mixed reviews on the all in one packages from them. Some people (like Jeff, above) love it, while others (my sister, a friend of mine) complain of constant outages.
Plus, they do increase the package rate after the introductory period.
At home it's Comcast for net access (16mb, woot!) and AT&T for phone for us. _________________ Lou Zucaro

getting the phone service installed was a nightmare, but finally it happened.
i, too, have a cable tv-phone-internet package with comcast and have no complaints save the cost when compared with qwest dsl and phone. the comcast unlimited long distance can't be beat and i never have a problem getting on line, though they just changed their interface and i have several complaints about it (what else is new?!).
interesting query, since i just researched a bit on changing providers to save money and ess-can the landline.
but i have a few important issues:
my email addresses (and getting clients, friends, family to use a "new" one- - diane@d3voiceworks.com, 'stead of the comcast.net ones)
lack of landline means changing to electronic fax. is that reliable delivery?
tv at the studio hasn't been on in a year! don't need cable tv, either. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Mine is through Time-Warner. I use it for my fax and phone patch. All other phone use is through my cell.
No glitches in four years. If the power goes out you're SOL, so keep that in mind. |

Had Vonage for 4 or 5 years - LOVED it - the best part for me - was that I had it send me email to let me know I had a new voicemail - with the audio attached to the email so I could listen to it right then and there. Also, I could login remotely and change the number of rings or time before it went to voicemail - so when someone needed to fax me (very rarely) - I could adjust it and have my fax answer it instead.
Only reason I don't still have it, is that I decided to ditch the home phone, when the 3G iPhone came out - to "justify" the purchase |

DB,
i guess it's like anything else, some customers go years without ever having a problem with __ product or service, while others have problems from the start. i am happy to say that i have not had any issues whatsoever. _________________ Tony

DB, I'm glad you asked this question. I too would love an all in one package, or even Vonage, but am afraid. I have Comcast, and they're not the most reliable. My internet goes out at least two-three times a year for up to a day or two at a time. And until December when I switched to Verizon, my cell didn't work in my house. _________________ Caryn Clark... I'm truly afraid to put all my eggs into one basket, so I keep all of my phones separate. Plus cable TV and/or cable Internet go out at least twice a year here and I can't remember the last time my phone was out...it's been decades.
This also goes back to my financially tighter times...if you have a billing problem with the company that handles all your media outlets, you could lose all of them at once. Irrational these days I know, but....

Not sure if it's exactly relevant, but a few months ago we finally decided to give up our verizon land line. It seemed we hardly ever used it and we were paying $60+/mo. for it. We have cell phone service with T-Mobile, so we added the @Home service for $9.99/mo. It uses our cable internet connection. So far, so good. Call quality is great. We've had to reboot the router only twice, and they were both due to power outages. Oh yeah, the only downside is that we now have a useless fax machine. I don't fax enough to justify a monthly service just for faxing.
As I said, this is relevant only if you have (or are considering) T-Mobile service. But we've been very very happy with them and we have excellent service in our area. |
