VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

i had lunch today (along with about 200 other people) with weekend edition's scott simon.

we're celebrating 50 years of public broadcasting here at wsiu and mr. simon was the keynote speaker. he's a super nice guy with ties to southern illinois through his godmother the unforgettable virginia marmaduke, the first female reporter for the chicago sun times (among other things) and a local fixture around here until her death in 2001.

as you might imagine - he was in pretty high demand - but i did get to speak with him for a few seconds & relate a "duchess" story of my own - really nice guy and, yes, a great voice. he's got a new book out - "windy city" looks pretty good.

oh, and rowell, for only a $60 dollar pledge you'll get the coffee mug ... and for $120 you'll receive the coffee mug AND the tote bag!
