ok... website completed, my equipment is finally here... time to get to work. Ok, where do I begin? Maybe somebody can give me some direction. For starters, my father suggested that should focus on some lower market stations around the world, write down their program directors number/email/address, and send out "hand-written" letters instead of email. mmm.. good idea. Emails will "by and large" be send to the recipients junkmail folder, but hand written letters will "by and large" be opened because he/she will think it's an invitation to an event or something! Why not show some initiative!??
Dear (client),
Hello, if you looking for new voice talent, allow me to throw my name in the proverbial hat. My name is Cameron Griffith from Jacksonville, Florida, and radio is in my blood!
I do: voicework, voice-immaging, commercials, industrial--you know, somewhere in that nature.
when you get a minute, please log on to my website, have a look, and tell me what you think? It would be greatly appreciated!
thanks for your time!
If I send out over "100" of these, I should at least get one response! Come on.. I am praying! If not, persistance is the key. Anybody got any more suggestions to help a young aspiring voice-over artist get any work??
Voices.com. Is it effective? Are there too many people auditioning for a $25 spot?

It's your career but in promoting yourself you need to embrace the "It's not about me"philosophy. Now read your mail shot and tell me who it's about.
Why not start with some lower market stations around the world? I'll tell yer why not seems yer awksing. THEY don't think they're lower market stations and THEY believe they deserve the best voice possible and if they are commercial stations THEY can afford good voices. Some plan well in adavance so they can hire a voice for a one hour session and get almost all the imaging and promotions done for a year. Unintentionally the impression given will be "Pah! I'm good enough for you Small Beer FM until CNN comes along and offers me some decent work". DON'T PANIC!! Everyone does it, don't fall into the same trap. All contact initiated by you should be about them.
Voices.com et al - try skiing up hill. There is less work around due to the market being saturated (pro tem) so if you intend to make a living as a Voice Overist every job needs to be a big hit or a sure fire certain cast iron guarantee repeat business client. If you are asked to audition for a job paying below around $250 there's something wrong with the client. If you repeatedly audition for jobs below $250 there's something wrong with the way you do business.
Hope that helps. |

Hi. You might want to rethink the concept of radio " in your blood". _________________ Bobbin Beam

Greg, You made me laff!
Seriously, consider losing the whole radio thing from your delivery systems!!! I've been out of radio now for 18 years and I still find myself relapsing from time to time. _________________ Bobbin Beam
