Just stumbled across this site:

http://www.newfiction.com/

They produce what they're calling "iSoap":

iSoap (eye-sop) n.
· An audio drama typically performed
as a serial on the Internet,
a cell phone, MP3 player (IPod).

· A modern version of the old-time radio
show that enables a user to access a
variety of FREE Audio Books in a
dramatized format.

Info on the "iSoap Factory" page says that that they're looking for voice actors. There's also mention of revenue sharing, although it's not clear if that's for all participants in a project, or just the original author.

Any thoughts on this outfit?

I'd be curious to know what kind of revenue is generated from free audiobooks.

Revenue sharing, for something that is free... That's got to be a good one.
Maybe you get to share the good feelings of knowing you've made someone happy?... So THAT'S why I feel better after I file my taxes.

Perhaps they're selling subscriber information to third parties -- I see no privacy policy.

Yikes!

Did you see this lead on Voices.com, and I think I saw a posting for it on a VO group on Linkedin as well -- for a book they're doing called Blood Dimmed Tide -- they want you to go to their site and submit your audition for a character. Then they POST the auditions, and people VOTE on them -- something like American Idol!

I still can't get a handle on how (or if) you are paid. (Even though the Voices lead specified the category as $2500-$5000 -- yeah.) So.... whaaa???

There is a page that says $20 - $50 per hour for talent recording in their LA studios. Can't remember the exact wording but it did mention non-local talent.

I saw that too, Connie -- and from the sound on some of the auditions, they'd better have people come into their studios. I listened to about 10 of them -- that's entertainment value in itself -- somebody should pay someone just for that!

And so we go back to the original question -- revenue sharing from what? Ads? The books are free.

Too bizarre.
