Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg

Apparently a couple signs posted in 2003 misspelled the lake's name. Thankfully all that is going to be fixed soon.

If anyone here ever gets a job where you have to say that name, you can bet there will be a party. Smile

Believe it or not, I remember a session at a studio where I worked in the 80s. The client was a bank in that area (Webster Bank perhaps) and the copy was written using that name and a brief explanation for it being the reason the lake became Webster Lake. I vividly remember who the talent was and the studio of course, but I just 'googled' him and I can't find anything recent as to his whereabouts or whether he's still doing voice work. For what it's worth, he managed to get through the name pretty well.

I noticed that all the VO's in the clip broke the word up into distinct chunks. Curious to know if that's the proper way to pronounce it, or if it's just easier to remember/say it in pieces.

There is a song about the lake. I have a distant memory of Charles Osgood featuring it on one of his Osgood Files radio broadcasts many, many (at least 20) years ago.

Many moons ago I did a live remote broadcast from a Webster city park at Lake Chargog! . Using the full name of ourse. I can spit it out pretty fast. It was easier for the locals to either call it Lake Chargog or Webster lake.

legend has it that the indian word translartes too, "You fish on your side of the lake I'll fish on my side and no one will fish in the middle.

Thus my contribution to this string.

Gosh, I was just happy being able to say the name of the State Fish of Hawaii: humuhumunukunukuapua'a.

Of course there's the original State Bird of Hawaii (now extinct): 'o'o 'a'a

You'll never guess what sound it made.

In grade school we learned a song about the humu-humu-nuku-nuku-a-pua'a— but it wasn't anything like that idiotically insulting High School Musical crap.

Humu humu means the fish (Humu humu means the fish)
Nuku nuku means the nose (Nuku nuku means the nose)
A-pua'a means the pig (A-pua'a means the pig)
It’s the fish with the pig like nose!

Humu-humu-nuku-nuku-a-pua'a!
