Hi all...I always get nervous posting in the gear thread...I become the Rainman with my vast lack of technical knowledge.
Anyway....I'm looking at rejiggering things in my studio and I'd like to get a new PC...I've been on the Mac/ PC fence for a while...but I miss Audition so I want to go PC....and I'm looking at getting a PC Audio Labs Rok Box Black Desktop Computer. Anyone familiar with this puppy? Any feedback would be much appreciated.
thanks!!!!!!!!

i would research the components individually, of course, especially the motherboard. just to make sure you don't get one that is crappa. it's a good company, though, i've worked with them before. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Are you doing major audio production and video editing? If not, that thing is a waste of hard earned money. Get the quietest Mac or PC you can, get a good audio interface, install a clean copy of Windows XP, 2 GB RAM, and you'll be fine. If you have no allegiance to Mac or Windows, get a Mac Mini and run both OS's side by side. Use the Mac OS for your sanity, and Windows when you need your Audition fix. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Thanks George...I appreciate your insights. Right now I don't do anything but voice - so I don't need anything heavy duty.
If you don't mind my asking....what are your suggestions for easiest to use/quality interfaces?
BTW- LOVED the video of your daughter on Facebook - what a cutie pie!! _________________ Moe Egan

Moe,
I am also an Audition addict.
However when I switched to Mac I got Amadeus, which to me is similar and works great and has multi-tracking if you need it.
Or, for $200, there is Adobe Soundbooth, which is even closer and made by the same company. |

Amadeus is only about $40. I wasn't sure that it would adequately replace Audition for me.
But I can tell you honestly that I haven't missed a beat since making the switch.( And I definitely don't miss Windows) |

I use a Mac Mini, booting to Windows and use Audition.
Why Audition on Windows? Because that's the license I had. I also boot camp it so if I decide to go all Apple, that's available too. The Mac Mini is quiet, does a great job and now that there are newer models out, the older Intel Mac Minis are going at a pretty good price. Just upgrade the RAM to the max. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

LOL.
Boot Camp is a free utility that allows you to boot to either Windows or OS X (the Mac OS). So you can freely switch between the Apple world and the Windows world. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Bootcamp gets into a little more advanced territory, but it makes Windows sing on a Mac. Another option which has worked perfectly me for me lately is called "VirtualBox" from Sun Systems. It's a virtual machine application that allows you to run Windows while in the Mac OS boot. You can run Audition from within the Mac OS pretty seamlessly, it's quite slick.
If you want to dabble, Virtual Box and Windows 7 RC1 are both FREE, so you really can't lose! Just have at least 2GB of RAM on your Mac.
Dive in HERE for Virtual Box tutorial, and then HERE for Windows 7 installation tutorial.
Just be aware the Windows RC1 self destructs in a year from now, so you'll need to buy it eventually.
As for audio interfaces, I like the EMU 0202 USB, M-Audio Fastttrack, or for portable use the CEntrance MicPort. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
