HI everyone. javascript:emoticon(' ')Newbie to VO in a home studio environment and was hoping to gather opinions on what is the best VO mic for male vocal/ voice. I have been looking at many online reviews and it seems that there are as many pluses and minuses for each one. So far my contendors for purchase are:
Shure SM7B
AT 2020 and 4040's...Just one or the other
Blue Bluebird
Rode NT1A
I really liked the Neumann TLM 103, but it's at the high end of my range.
I gathered most of my ideas from samples and online reviews, but haven't actually used any of these mics. Please help me pair down this list. I'm planning on buying two, but could live with one that does it all. ( if there is such a mic)
I currently have an Mbox Mini with protools, and am not looking to do any other live recording except for voices and vocals. Have a dedicated space for this and am also thinking of purchasing the se electronics reflexion mic filter too.
I have no other mics right now, and am in process of putting this all together. I appreciate anyone/ everyones' help in this process, and while i know that mics are a 'personal' selection, I'm hoping there are some kind souls out there willing to steer me in the right direction. |

I think the general consensus is to try out a bunch of mic's to see what works best for your particular voice. Go to a Guitar Center, for ex, and ask to demo a few.
I settled on a Studio Projects B1, based on a recommend I read on here. I tried a few mics and decided that this on works for me.

If you can't justify the expense of a Neumann TLM103 then the Studio Projects B1 will do the job until you make a profit. For the most part the only difference between a $100 mic and a $400 mic is $300. |
