I have a client that feels I have a very noisy recording environment, so I have to shut everything in the room off... computers, fans, air conditioning, and record to my laptop since it only has a teeny-tiny quiet fan.

The booth is a sauna. Between sweat and throat hydration, I think I've drank a couple of litres of water in the last two hours.

Then again, a little weight loss wouldn't hurt me at all...

Even if your environment isn't really noisy - mine is pretty quite - but fans and AC will certainly change that in a hurry. So my recording attire in the summer is - uh - rather skimpy.

The house a/c doesn't reach into this room much at all, so it's normally 85 or so in the summer.

Recording or not, attire here too is sometimes a bit ... understated.

But that's why we work from home!

When it's too blistering indoors, I like to take my work for a breezy walk along our shady lane using the latest gear:

PM me for details-- I know the owner.

I try to get as much done in the early part of the day during summer. By the afternoon....UGH. Peeling off clothes, putting on a/c between takes, & sucking ice cubes.

It usually cools down a bit in the evening around these parts. I find from about 11 PM on is a good time to record. Also the neighbors are sleeping, and I'm a night person.

I'm suddenly feeling very thankful for my G & K booth and its ventilation system. (Especially good during a Miami summer!)

I'm often thankful the people on the other end of the ISDN line cannot SEE me.

I LOVE summer, but I do not like how hot my studio gets. That's the next studio improvement... ventilation. Just not quite sure how to do it, and I don't want to ruin how quiet it is in here.

some of the best money i spent early on was getting a friend to build a booth for me. then i brought the people who installed and service my furnace a/c to come in and tap off the existing ductwork in the ceiling of my main room, snaking a flexible piece of insulated ductwork around on the roof surface of my booth and into a vent in its own ceiling. (my mic booth does not touch either the room ceiling or the outside wall.) and i have a dual zone thermostat system which lets me set a temperature separate from the rest of the house.

this business can make me shiver and sweat too much as it is...no need to add an extra layer of suffering.
