|
|
As much as I respect Stephanie and David's commitment to the community, someone at Voices.com screwed up.
I got an email this morning from a potential client saying "Any reason in particular as to why you chose to remove your bid for this job?"
Huh? As far as I knew, there was no way to un-audition for a gig. I followed up with Voices.com and Laurynda replied that what the client saw was a result of the new feature that allows you to delete answered auditions from your inbox.
Bottom line: If you delete an answered audition from your inbox, the audition will show up to the client with a message in red saying "The talent has withdrawn their submission for this job". The incorrect assumption is that if you delete an answered audition, you must no longer be interested. Nevermind that you took the time to audition and write up a proposal...
And oops! Laurynda forgot to tell anyone that, including Stephanie.
So if you're like me and deleted all of your answered auditions since the feature was released, then you've essentially withdrawn all of your auditions for that period.
This feature is totally counter-intuitive. No other inbox-style software does that. If I delete an email that I've responded to, it goes into my deleted items folder. _________________ Jeff

Wonder if V123 does the same thing? I just deleted a bunch of old stuff the other day there. Never done that at Voices though. |

I have been trying to upload a rather large file to a client at Voices.com today with no success. The client has sent in his money so I am anxious to deliver his material to him (and get the funds released to me).
To her credit, Laurynda got back to me in fairly short order, confirming my suspicion that there was a file-size issue (apparently files over 10-MEG could not be uploaded to their server). Before I heard back from Laurynda I tried chopping my file in half (still too large) and after she confirmed the file size problem was a known issue on their end, I further subdivided the files but still could not upload
Demos loaded fine, but this was a SurePay job. I haven't tried for a couple of hours. I may wait until the morning to try again. Fortunately, the client is not in a super rush to get this stuff. (At least, I hope he isn't.) _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Quite the threadjack, Lee.
To keep it on track, make sure you don't delete that audition from your answered inbox, or the client will see the ridiculous "The talent has withdrawn their submission for this job" message. _________________ Jeff

Jeff,
Thanks for mentioning that. I may have inadvertently done this myself, when checking off a page of boxes to delete old stuff from my voices.com inbox! _________________ David Swinehart

I'm one of those people who likes to keep his inbox clean. So for the past X number of weeks that the feature has been enabled, I'd delete the audition immediately after sending it. Little did I know, I was rescinding all those auditions. _________________ Jeff

Thanks for the heads up Jeffrey. I would have done the same thing as you, except I hadn't gotten around to it yet. Procrastination is a good thing sometimes.
Much success to you!

I bleeb V123 deletes them from view for the client after 30 or 60 days which seems reasonable. Also, I can't see why you'd want to delete your answers any sooner than 30 to 60 days. It contains your bid plus whatever you promised to do...pretty handy reference.
After 60 days I'm pretty sure they're not picking me.

When you delete bids, they go into your deleted items folder. You can never really delete them. So the info is there if you need it. It's just completely lame to message the client that the talent is no longer interested simply because they moved it out of their inbox. _________________ Jeff

Interesting. I only (intentionally) delete the jobs that I don't intend to answer. I've had two situations where an audition via an online site landed me work three or four months later. By and large, I agree with you: most folks make up their mind pretty quickly, but you never know when a project gets put on hold behind the scenes and suddenly reappears down the road... _________________ David Swinehart
