Apparently the network moguls and Wall Street ad agents and clients have arrived at a new thought for the way commercials will be presented in the future - according to them.

Read the story here: http://www.thewrap.com/article/standard-ad-pods-disappearing-tv_3733

Will this work? Four 30 second ads from the same advertiser in a row is still two minutes no matter how you package the box. Add this in sync with local commercial and the five minute commercials break still takes five minutes.

The agency creative type brains are hard at work creating new ways to ditch the old "tried-and-true". How long do you think it will take them to figure out that this concept doesn't work well?

Toodles

Thanks for the link, very interesting. They need to try something since the current ads aren't watched.

It looks like we're going back to the Golden Age of TV - shows sponsored by one major company with the stars of the show participating in the pitching. Yay!

"And now a word from our alternate sponsor."

I imagine a fair percentage of the members here are too young to remember that phrase and some won't even know what it means.

Wow, Lee. THAT takes me back. I do remember that one. Also, we've already done the TV characters in character for the sponsor route: Dick Van Dyke did it, and you can go all the way back to Bob Cummings and Schultze.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Stars were doing ads in their own shows back in the radio days and certainly in the early TV days:

Lucy and Desi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MbKELs9WA8 (includes the freaky bellhop kid that was Phillip Morris trademark for ages)

Jackie Gleason (almost skinny): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FD81mIQPOI8

The younger members of our studio audience here have little idea what they missed with live commercials in the olden days.....imagine what the aliens 57 light years away from us are thinking about us now!

Yes....
....and at the same time, my wife, who is a DVR fanatic and fast forwards through many commercial sets, will actually go back to see commercials she finds entertaining, like the "Sonic" commercials.....

.....and I always go out of my way to watch the "Progressive.com" girl,
and I'll admit, some of the Geico commercials are kind of catchy....

ergo, the answer for advertisers may be to ensure that their commercials are entertaining, and not just an informational blather.....in the old days we had to endure the blather, but today not so much.....
