Both dead.

Fawcett, 62, succumbed to cancer following a lengthy battle with the disease.

Jackson, 50, suffered cardiac arrest at his home in California.

Like so many of those whose flames burn so brightly when they are young, we can't imagine them when they're 75 or 80, and so often the fates don't allow us to see them so.

I mean it's just a bit freaky seeing Paul McCartney in his latter 60's now.

I shall fondly remember all of the great music and moves in Michael's earlier years and try and forget the rest.

Peace to you both after your turbulent times.

B

It feels so strange to me with so many that were part of my youth passing. Half the Beatles are gone along with so many others. It is making me introspective, sad and feeling old. Sigh.

Liz,

Yes it does. I remember my Dad saying at his mother's funeral a few years ago "We're the old ones now." (My grandmother was the last of her generation left in our family when she died.)

Reminders of our own mortality. It puts life into perspective even during our most challenging days work, worry and hardship.

What a heavy week-- entertainment AND world news.

An addition to the plentiful heaps of memorials, montages, and retrospectives we will hear and see, this is a radio piece I recorded last evening.

Pardon my quote addition/reliance, but I love 'em:

I grew up with Michael Jackson— and he, Madonna and I are all the same age.
I know it's goofy. I'm no star, heaven knows but I have always enjoyed keeping track of the trajectories of their careers even as I changed diapers and did midnight-to-6 on the radio.

Michael did so much for American music.
I just can't believe he's gone. I hope he was happy at some point in his life— it seems as though he never really got to have a life.
