Does anyone have a good option to de-breath a long form narration? I.e. Noise gate Settings. I used to use outboard processing for this, and have moved to doing it ALL in the box. With that in mind I need to do 3 things...

1. Noise Gate/Compander/Dynamics Processing settings to do an initial de-breath on a very quiet background file.

2. How do I set up a shortcut to do a -6db amplify to kill peaks without having to mouse click away?

3. In older versions of CEP and AA, I used to be able to highlight a portion of the audio and hit the space bar several times to find the right edit point. I've been using AA3 for nearly 2 years now and just can't seem to find the setting to make that happen. Anytime I have the file highlighted and the mouse button still held down I can't hit the spacebar to play...

It's never been a big deal until I get my first long form narration gig and now I'm stuck and need to SAVE SOME MAJOR TIME!

OK, I think I might have found a good starting point here. I'm still working on tweaking this, but by doing it visually, then tweaking by really listening, I've found a good workable setting that will eliminate most breaths and mouth noise without eliminating sonic qualities of audio... if you've got any thoughts or ideas on further tweaks, please let me know.

Audio Chain is as follows with absolutely NO processing... Lauten Clarion Mic - Daking Mic Pre One - Mackie Onyx 1620 Board run flat - E-Mu 0202 interface - Mac Mini Green 4 gig Ram - Windows XP on Boot Camp - Adobe Audition 3.0

SETTINGS USED ON THESE FILES

AFTER NOISE GATE COMPANDER IN ADOBE AUDITION 3.0

This eliminated most of the breaths and a lot of the mouth noise but not all of it... BTW, if you've got any tips on eliminating mouth noise naturally, I'm all ears...

FINAL AUDIO PROCESSING

I used the Amplify Setting set to -96 db to eliminate any additional mouth noise or other sonic problems.... I also ran a parametric eq on it with a 2.5db cut at 200 and a 2.5 db rise at 12.5. After the eq, I used the Dynamics Processing/Classic Soft Knee compression pre-set and finally normalized to 85%

To me, it sounds good. Possibly a bit more compressed than it should be. The more I train my ears and get a cleaner audio chain, the more I'm sensitive to compression.

Are there any changes you would make in these settings to produce a better sounding file? I want to get these things worked out before I head into a 50 page narration... As always I appreciate the help

thanks for the info...been looking for a good gate/compressor in AA 3 for a while ... I'll play with these a bit and see if I can come up with anything additional.

I get good results with Waves RenVox (available in VST for AA) and the stock Gate/Compressor in ProTools LE...

I worked with these settings a bit more today and they still cut into the vocals a bit... I'll post re-vamped settings in a few more days as I tweak. Hope this helps save you some time.

Mouth noise is usually due to dry mouth. Just a sip of room temperature H2O helps tremendously. Not cold, not hot, not coffee or Mt. Dew. Just a sip of water will usually do.
