A few weeks ago Charlie phoned. He's an actor and like most actors had to get a proper job to keep body and soul together, to say nothing of a wife and 3 young children. Charlie has done a few voice over jobs but his main job is Drama Teacher at Elgin Academy.

"A TV producer told me that you live near me (he recently moved to Buckie about 3 miles away) and that if I could offer myself as an ISDN voice I may get some work". His particular selling point apart from being a trained actor with experience is he is Scottish. Needless to say I kicked up a real fuss.

"Yeah, no problem. Pop over when you have time so you can see what you'll be offering people". Pop over he did. Nice guy, looked just about old enough to have 3 children.

Yesterday morning I returned from a walk on the beach with Jazz and there was a message on my answerphone. A commercial producer had bitten and wanted Charlie for a session but he needed to confirm by 11.30 at the latest. I returned Charlie's call at a little after 11. Needless to say I kicked up a real fuss.

"Yeah, no problem. Pop over when you're ready, book any time and I'll work around you".

1230 Charlie is the voice of a sponsor line for Honda and a PSA for the northern Constabulary. As he emerges from my Wee Huttie a few shillings the richer Charlie says to the producer.

"Yes. He's right here, I'll get him for you. Philip, Paul wants a word".

Paul the producer asks me if I have time to do a couple of lines for two commercials. I agree and the fax whirrs into action ......... A few minutes later I emerge from my Wee Huttie a few shillings the richer.

Well HOORAH AND HUSSAR!

When I spend the money I earn I'll be spending good old Scottish pounds and the bank notes look far more interesting than the offerings from other countries. Note from the illustrations on the front and back of a tenner where the priorities lie - Literature, beer and whisky. Makes sense to me.

He's a man who knows what's important.

Benjamin Franklin said, "Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards, there it enters the roots of the vines, to be changed into wine, a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy.."

That's what I like: money that depicts what you'll actually be spending it on. Is there a denomination that shows them building roadsters?

Philip: I hope you've learned your lesson, young man.

Lee: I'm holding out for one that depicts mountains of dark chocolate. Laugh
