can someone recommend to me a reliable, easy, and customizable software to use for billing? the one I've been using is way too restrictive and not adaptable enough (i bought it from the bargain bin at Comp USA - guess that was my first mistake).

Quickbooks Simple Start. You can print invoices and/or email them to clients. I only have one client that likes his invoices mailed to him, but the rest love the emailed invoices.

Another vote for Quickbooks Easy Start! It's a great little program and it does everything you'll need with ease.

Happy bean counting!

Easy Start huh?
Thanks for that, guys! Someone had recommended a Quickbooks for small business or something last year and it was sooooo much more than I needed - this sounds like an "LE" version so I'll run out and get it.

Thanks you much.

I use a Word template to create my invoices and I track everything using Microsoft Money. It takes a little while to customize and set up all your expense & income categories, but once you do it's a pretty friendly system.

Apparently it's "Simple Start" in the U.S. and "Easy Start" in the Commonwealth. $99 or less if you shop around.

trademarks, licensing, copyrights, patents - it's weird huh? I've seen cars in the Domincan Republic with a different name than here in the U.S. - guess it happens with all products.

btw - Rognog - do yourself a favor and find one software that does it all for you. Trust me, you'll thank your dollars.

I use Word documents for invoices but I think I am going to stop. They can be altered by the receiver if they're emailed. Might do pdf files. Havent tried Quick Books. I have the new version of Quicken and I hate it. Quicken 2000 was much more user friendly for keeping track of expenses.

Glenn, while you may not like the new version of Quicken (and I have to agree that it becomes more unnecessarily complex with each new version), I'm pretty sure you can create invoices directly from Quicken without having to bother with Quickbooks. I think you can set up a business account in Quicken, and as long as you don't have inventory to keep track of, you can do most of your business accounting there.

Hey Anthony,

I use the full version of QuickBooks Pro... and its tremendous! Much more than I need...? Yeah, but as I have grown over the years I haven't had to look at anything else...othe than the learning curve.

Dave

P.S. I also have QuickBooks Easy Start (or whatever its called) but have never used it since I already had the full version. It will likely do what you want. And you're right on track...getting everything in one place (software) for billing/taxes/etc is the only way to go!

i went to their website and started comparing the different versions... i considered the full version, but they have a "HELP ME CHOOSE" option and for my needs (after answering only a few questions) they recommended only the
Simple Start Edition.

Super! For $50 I don't see how you can go wrong.

Anthony,

When I click on the link you provided, it takes me to their main page and right there is an ad for Quickbook for windows. Click on that and it takes you right to the 49 dollar listing.
