Wow. That's really pathetic.
I had two similar situations. One was when I ordered a blank equipment rack panel (about one eighth of an inch thick by 19 inches long by 4 inches high). It comes tightly packed in its own box from the manufacturer, but the store I ordered it from shipped it in a box that was about 24 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 16 inches high... and stuffed with crumpled brown paper. I called the place to thank them for sending my order, but I also took the time to politely suggest that the company seriously get into conscientious packaging.
This second one, though, is the one that still gets me. I ordered 100 6 by 9-inch padded envelopes (the kind we send CDs in). The padded envelopes arrived in a large box... stuffed with styrofoam peanuts.
I suppose, if I were to order styrofoam peanuts, they would be shipped in a box stuffed with bubble wrap... or brown paper... or padded envelopes. _________________ Mike

I suppose we should all send our files to clients with thirty minutes of silence on either end to be safe. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

A very good idea, but make sure you do so as a full wav file and not an mp3.
Preferably, a 396 CID (or greater) Superquadrohexaphrenic wav file. |

"Incredible if true".
Near the other end of the spectrum - I ordered a pair of shoes last week and they arrived in a normal shoebox, with the usual tissue paper as you would see in the store, and some clear tape to keep the box closed during shipping. That was it. Awesome. |

Of course - like Mary said - there is the other end of the spectrum.
I once bought a Portugese ceramic cabbage leaf soup tureen on eBay that arrived in a cardboard box nearly the exact size of the tureen before shipping. By the time it arrived, the box was far too big for what was left of the tureen. ??!!!???!! What are people thinking! _________________ Playing for a living...

Myself is intrigued by what a cabbage leaf soup tureen would look like and can I get one in Campbell's Chicken Noodle?
I once received a delicious hamper filled with chocolates. It came in a box twice it's size and was filled with about 3 weeks of newspaper. It was nice to read up on what was happening in middle America while munching on the goodies. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Cute. My immediate response to the photo was, "Wow! Look! There IS a toy surprise inside!"
Several years back, I ordered a Mr Winkle stuffed toy. Mr Winkle is the puppy dog made famous by a photographer who adopted him and dressed him up for photos. Anyway, I opened the box and proceeded to UNFOLD Mr. Winkle. Practically had to inflate the poor, stuffed pup. Still not sure he should look the way he ended up looking. My first thought was, what HORROR children must have experienced when they opened the box. Oooooohhhh. Mr. Winkle had an accident. _________________ Patricia Shanks

Sounds like the box was supposed to say "Mr. Wrinkle".
Then there's the related branch of product-packaging science that leads some to apply Origami principles to the package design. I bought some JVC Marshmallow ear buds last night on a friend's recommendation. Didn't like the sound, so I packed them back up to return. While I was eventually able to get it all back together, it challenged the limits of my body's pitiful two-arm/ten-finger design. Re-packing instructions would have also helped ("Insert broken tab A into torn-open slot B, then...") _________________ Justin S. Barrett
