Bob, dscott, thanks for the kind words. It's a little difficult to tell what is all going on in there. It's a small room with lot's of treatment. It sounds wonderful too. I may post a sample later.
Having done the acoustics I have to say what an incredible difference it makes. Not just in what I record but also in what I can hear.
I am able to hear things I never could before. The subtle differences between highend mics. Like those posted on a forum somewhere in a wav file.
for example. |

Very cool indeed! I'd love to know more about how you set this up, including the monitor mount. The latter looks like a MacGyvering of hardware with a pre-made bracket. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

Thanks for all the kind words everyone it is much appreciated. It was a long haul to get it done.
The microphone mount is actually a piece of Threaded black pipe ( a plumbing item) with a flange on the bottom to mount it to the desk and a cap on the top. I screwed on the flange and screwed on the cap. Voilą! (all from the plumbing store for under 20.00) I then painted it with some black wrinkle paint. I had the swing arm monitor mount from my previous set up and for the time being it is hose clamped to the piece of black pipe. I just haven't gotten round to drilling two holes and putting bolts through it.
All the pieces except for the black part of the desk are things I made. The desk itself started out as an Argosy Raven. It's been a lot of fun to do but I have back problems so this took me about 3 mos longer than it should have to get it done. I learned a lot and that's always fun.
The JZ Microphones, Black Hole, BH3 is here for review. I will post the review once I finish it. I really like it. I will also post a sound file for you.
Having the room acoustically treated makes a WORLD of difference. Not only do I sound better, I am able to hear things so much better now that when I listen I have to make sure I'm not hearing things.
Thanks again everyone. I really appreciate it. |
