Love it Justin!!!
I had a difficult commute this morning...minor coffee overflow as I turned the corner on the stairs- gotta watch those overfilled mugs... then there was a rather nasty laundry pile up in front of the laundry room....luckily- the lights were all with me and I got to the studio in plenty of time...lol _________________ Moe Egan

There's an educational firm I record with several times a year and they insist I take the 20 mile drive across town to record in their facilities, but they're nice enough to schedule the sessions for 10am so I miss the worst.
For most of my radio career I tried to pick apartments close to the station or stations close to home because you're usually driving one way or the other at some horrible hour of the day.
I'm sure I was influenced by the drive I had to make to my first morning show gig. The drive started at 4:30 in the morning and was 20 miles across town mostly on slow city streets and the last few miles were on a country highway that passed by a rendering plant. A rendering plant takes the leftovers from the beef processing plant and "renders" it into something else. So on warm, dark, summer mornings (90º+) I would follow these stake trucks with cow legs and other parts sticking out of the slats on the side while we drove over the things that had fallen out of the trucks during the preceding days. The stench? Well.....
Part of my desire to live close to work. And now the commute is usually 12 feet. Not bad.

There was a four cat pile-up in the hallway this morning. Traffic is getting so bad around here. They drive like animals. |

Nice chuckle.
My last morning commute was in December of 2006.

Oh, I don't know. Sometimes it's a real struggle to motivate myself enough to commute up the stairs from the living room to the studio.
Actually I do most of my recordings out in the greater jungle of central Tokyo. I usually take the train, but I have a regular twice weekly, 6 mile, 40 minute drive from my place to the NHK studios. Sometimes the traffic just crawls and it can turn into 90 minutes. No complaints though. My car is my personal family free womb cocoon.

Glad y'all got a kick out of it like I did. The "four cat pile-up" made me laff! _________________ Justin S. Barrett

It's great to be able to "commute" down one flight of stairs and generate some revenue.
On the other hand, on Monday I have to drive to Boston for an audition. I'm grateful for the opportunity, but it's about 100 miles each way (plus parking and tolls on the Massachusetts Turnpike). This studio calls me only once in a blue moon, and I've never actually landed a job a a result of these auditions, but I have to do it. And if I am fortunate enough to get the gig, I'll have to make the same commute the following Monday. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

The studio I report to in the morning is situated next to an aging yet amazingly prolific fig tree now dripping in fermenting figs, enormous drunk irridencent green beetles, various other scavengers and a couple of cats waiting in the branches trying to catch an unwary bird.
Today's commute was disrupted by a major fence breach by one of those rascally cats who jumped up onto the cat escape twarting wire fencing knocking 50 pounds of planters onto the jaccuzi cover. The little minx who caused the accident is still hiding under the deck.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. _________________ Playing for a living...
