I'm attempting to get my old band buddies into a sort of virtual recording session. Some of the guys are more computer literate than others. What I'm considering for a pianist/sax player/vocalist is either a M-Audio MobilePre USB Interface with Microphone Preamp http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOMOBILEPRE or an ART USB Dual Pre http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/USBDualPrePS/
The software will be the latest (beta) version of Audacity. What we'll be doing is posting work demos of songs with the music on one side, and the click track on the other. Each individual musician imports the stereo file into Audacity, adds (say) a piano track, then saves that as a stereo wav file with music on one side and click on the other, and posts it. I download it, and drag it into Pro Tools here. The bass player and I have been doing this process for a few weeks and it works great.
Sorry for digressing so bad...what's a good solution for this USB preamp question?
Thanks,

Jim,
I used a MobilePre USB for my voiceover work for over 2 years and it was a simple unit to use. I still have it as a back-up for my travel kit, but have moved to the M-Audio Fast Track Pro for my main interface now. _________________ Be well,

I used a Mobile Pre for a few years and now have a Lexicon Ionix U42S. The preamps are dbx and quite nice. Better quality than the MAudio was and also a little more expensive...But not too bad. Around $400. |

The Fast Track Ultra pres are a big step up from a lot of other M-Audio pres and are the same ones used in the M-Audio ProFire 610 (THAT ICs). They're not John Hardy or Avalon preamps by any stretch, but I like them better than Mackies. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

The Art Project Series Tube MP USB pre works very well.
Requires no software. Plug and play. Has a Hi Pass filter, too.
$99. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |
