Not that is a shock, but it is a bit stunning to see the last of an empire die.

Teddy's story from the Boston Globe.

Yes, it is sad. But not unexpected. I've also seen some pretty awful snark about him coming from the usual sources. Can't they let a man die in peace?

Everyone who brings up Chappaquiddick should be asked if they'd like their own eulogy to consist solely of the worst moment of their life.

Didn't think so.

What you want and what you deserve are very different things, Mr. Houston.

Not trying to pee on the man's grave or anything, but let's not go into hero worship mode either.

I didn't see any hero worship in Dave's comment. I think there's a time for respect and a time for retrospective. The speakers for the dead will have their time; let those who wish to mourn this man's passing have theirs.

I wasn't a big fan of all his politics, but in the end, he did a lot of good for a lot of people across a huge spectrum of American life and that's an achievement that deserves respect for now.

Jeff, Your "negative karma foot print" is growing larger and larger with each passing comment.

That's mighty kind of you to not pee on a man's grave when the body hasn't even been buried yet.

All right everyone.

Let us attempt to remain civil.

Wow. Really didn't expect that.

I did point out that it was the worst moment of the Senator's life. Also, I used the word "solely" for a reason. In the interests of civility, I'll leave it at that.

May I dissent please.
The obits about Ted Kennedy have been glowing and wide ranging, befitting a man with such tremendous influence.
But to EXCLUDE chappaquddick from the story is to un-necessarily cleanse the story of its integrity.
Nothing snarky here.
He was a very public figure and the whole story should be told.
They will leave the episode out of the eulogies to come. But it is a necessary part of his obit.

No disrespect intended. And perhaps while people are still mourning his passing, then a positive view of his life is in order.

However, his eventual legacy should include all facets of his life, warts and all.

So I think some Shakespeare here would be appropriate to end this thread, from Julius Caesar:

"The evil that men do live after them; the good is oft interred with their bones."
