Fortunately my stack of ten-foot-poles is in storage, otherwise I'd be poking all over this thread in many different directions. 
I would never go to such an event, but I think the case against it can be made with much more tactful persuasion.

Sorry, couldn't think of a single Shirley.
And those Souer boys ARE the cutest- fer shirley!
