Jazz sits in front of Sam our cleaner and gazes up at her in an adoring fashion.
"No, yer nay gittin' a bohsey noo, yer ah weet!"
Bohsey - oh as in the letter "O" and sey =Zee.
What? Literally it means as a woman would hug or cuddle a child by cradling it into her bosum - Bohsey. When I understood I thought it a truly beautiful expression. |

Furalex isn't 'posed to get weet. Not only does it affect the qualities that make it so desirable in the studio, but it acquires a death glare in the process. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

I've had to lay off the bohseys...although, some of them are oh so cozy-
It seems odd, but even on the streets of Manhattan I've been offered a cozy bohsey...I had to stop, I just wasn't getting any work done... _________________ PETER GANIM

The Scots lingo has a seemingly inexhaustible supply of colourful terms. Especially insults. My current fave is the disparaging description of someone as a "Chanty Wrassler". The chanty was the china pot kept beneath the bed, in days of old, for purposes of nocturnal relief. The Wrassler (like a wrangler, I suppose) would be someone who was fit only to mess about with pots of pi**.
So now, when a client winds me up, I mutter "chanty wrassler" quietly to myself. _________________ Charles Nove
