All regional accents are slowly going away in the English speaking world and it's all our fault, those of us in the audio/video media, as we speak "accent free". Even my great Spanish language friend who reads fluently in various dialects each from Spain, South America and Mexico gets more and more requests for "International Spanish", a more neutral form.

We's gon' miss youse guys.

When I'm not recording or performing I tend to slip back into a mixture of accents from all the places I've lived.

We're very fortunate on here that so many of us talk without an accent. Liz does it, Bruce does it and if I make the same claim that makes us all fluent in bollocks!

Put the 3 of us in a bar.

"Wow" exclaims the Barman "Do you 3 all come from the same place? Why I can hardly detect an accent from any of you!"

When we start to sound amorphous accented bland we do not become proud Voice Overists we become out of work Voice Overists.

Amorphous bland pays $20 per hour tops, your unique sound including your accent pays a minimum of $300 per hour.

I worked with a fella who grew up in Brownville, Maine (NE of here) and didn't have any sort of accent. I interact with a lot of folks in this area daily and only a few really sound like they're from heeyah.
