Hope you all don't mind my self-serving post in regards to the phone interview I did recently with cartoon voice actor Jim Cummings.

In the interview, Jim explains his process for doing voice matches/sound-alikes, and for my fellow impressionists out there it's very informative. I have no doubts Jim would be a great voice acting coach (if he had time to do so).

My interview was just published at Toon Zone, and some outtakes from the interview and additional photos are included on my Voice Actors in the News blog.

Hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I did getting the chance to chat with Jim.

jim c is one of my favorite "new generation" voice artists. i started noticing him in the too-good-for-kids series, "Darkwing Duck", and he continues to amaze with his range.

i'm glad you were able to give him more of the spotlight he richly deserves!

"Sterling Holloway's most enduring role at Disney was as the wistful voice of Winnie the Pooh" (copied that from some place)

Me mum was a Holloway. Makes me proud to be half Holloway, what with Sterling and Stanley being such well know actor types. If only I could channel them fellows.

Craig,
Thank you for this. One of my first v/o gigs after moving to San Diego was a multi-voice spot with Jim Cummings, (we had the same agent) when he also used to live here. He was very fun to work with, and purely professional! What an excellent article!

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!

Sorry.

Simply put, Jim Cummings is the MAN!!!
(and the duck, the dog, the bobcat, etc...)

Can't wait for the interview. How did you find him--I've not seen an online presence for him anywhere.

Thank you all for your kind words. They are greatly appreciated, especially coming from veteran VOs here.

Hard to say, since I have some other projects that are priority for me right now.

But possibly late September or early October. I'll bump this thread when it goes up.

Why would you wait for the interview when it's already linked above? Or are you referring to the audio version?

I didn't have to "find" him. Disney PR contacted Toon Zone's chief editor at the last minute to ask if we would like to be included in a day of media interviews Jim was doing to promote the DVD release of "The Tigger Movie 10th Anniversary Edition". Toon Zone's editor was unable to do the interview due to work, but he knew I was very familiar with Jim's work so he asked me to do the interview.

Also, if you read either of the links I posted above, you'll find a link to Jim's official website.
