A client calls to brief me on the script he's sent, before I commit it to an MP3. I'm to speak the words of a company's CEO.
Client: Now, it's really important that this sounds like the real CEO is speaking. Not at all voice-overy. Very much a case of finding the real guy.
Me: So, you want me to find the zone where this real guy is?
Client: I want you to find the zone, go there, move into his house and put things on the mantelpiece.
Me: Great. Can i decorate?
Client: Yep. Any colour you like.
Me: Get a cat?
Client: Yes, as long as it's female.
Me: I think we understand each other.
Job done! I love this business. Where else can you have such illuminating business conversations? _________________ Charles Nove

And people say voiceover isn't a serious business. Aren't they aware that all this moving in, decorating, painting, and cat selection has to happen for every job? Sheesh!
Love the story, Charles. Thanks for sharing it! _________________ Justin S. Barrett

Oh, I love this story! Can you throw a party, too? I think it's time for a vo-bb party and this pad sounds fab. _________________ Manfillappsoc: The Mandy and Philip mutual appreciation Society. Who's in your network?

That is beautiful Charles!
Today I had this conversation with a new client who seemed like a no-nonsense "let's get this out the door" kind of guy (which I like).
Me: "I'm available to record Monday afternoon"
Him: "Great. The script won't be ready then, unfortunately"
Me: "Wonderful. I'll send you an mp3 of five minutes of silence on Monday and then an email Tuesday morning saying 'give me my money!'"
Him: "Ha! I like the way you think!"
Nowhere near as zen as what you described, but it's fantastic when you hit the same wavelength on which a client is. _________________ Voice over in Atlanta, without the drawl.
