VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

I finally upgraded to a 24-bit interface -- an Edirol UA25EX -- and it came bundled with the Cakewalk suite (LE's of Sonar 6, Project5, and Dimension). Any benefit to switching from Audacity to Cakewalk? Ultimately I'd like to get Adobe Soundbooth but I don't see dropping 200 bones on it at the moment when I have 2 free editors already.

A good friend of mine in Virginia uses Sonar and loves it, but I don't have any personal experience with it.

Roland owns Cakewalk and Edirol. I recently bought a new UA-25EX after my old UA-25 when bad.

In the old days Edirol packed Cubase LE with their product. If it were Cubase LE, I would recommend going with Cubase.

I am way happy with SoundForge 9.0 and Cubase LE which I still use even thought I upgraded to Cubase 4.0

Hey thanks folks. Between the comments and mails I've received and a musician I talked to at work, I think Cakewalk is a wonderful, time-tested software bundle intended for something different than what I need.

Guess I'll stick with Audacity for a few more months Smile

Sound Forge has recently upgraded to Version 10.

Be on the look-out for left over V 9.0. Right now the prices are not very good, but in a bit some retailer will opt to move it and cut their loses.

If you can find a cut-rate (Price) on V 9.0 you will be in super shape. 9.0 is very capable of most every thing you would want to do as a VO artist.

George for many on this Board you are right. I think you are most likley making an assumption that I only do voice work. That is not the case.

I produce a Radio Program that will soon be going 5.1
I do location recording of musical groups
I have a music video in the works, first edit due Fri.
I am in pre-production of another radio program
I have two televison program that we are gearing up for pilot and hope that we can sell.

Sound Forge, Cubase, Nuendo are the tools I need. n'est-ce pas?

Also, isn't Sound Forge Studio missing Wave Hammer? I use this all the time, and would not want to record VO without it! Wave Hammer alone is worth the extra dough over studio.

Only if funds are REALLY tight would I suggest Studio over the full version. I figure, using Wave Hammer on an audition that really stands out and gets you one more gig you might not have gotten otherwsie, it has paid itself off - anything after that is gravy.

Wave Hammer is a compressor/loudness maximizer and there are a few out there on the market that will get the same results, but there's also a FREE solution here:

the kjaerhus classic series stuff is pretty good considering its free...in order to get Wave Hammer-like results, you'd insert both the Classic Compressor and Classic Master Limiter.

I have some presets for these that are similiar to the Wave Hammer "voice" preset if anyone is interested.
