Late night routine here in Portgordon is to take Jazz for a run around the block. Down Cathcart Street, along towards March St, turn right and then go towards the harbour and finally along the beach path eventually ending up back at the house for tea and biscuits .........and so to bed.
Last night at around midnight we got as far as the harbour and I noticed a Police patrol car doing a slow circuit, obviously looking for something or someone. Jazz ran ahead and as he did so I saw two small lights moving around right out on the harbour wall. I asked Jazz to sit as I watched the lights come towards me. They stopped, moved closer, stopped, moved closer and did this getting slower and slower as they closed in on Jazz.
I was watching two Police officers on foot with torches (flashlights). As I was dressed in dark clothes I was all but invisible to them, Jazz is more black than white so the same could be said of him except for one thing. The dark nights are upon us so it would be difficult to keep track of a jet propelled Border Collie were it not for an extra collar which is studded with red LEDs which flash every few seconds.
The first face to become visible to me was that of a 20 something female Police Constable; it was a real pleasure to see a wide eyed, terrified face break into a broad grin when Jazz trotted over to her, sat down, looked up and wagged his tail while he waited patiently for a pat and a "hello".
"Oh my God!" she said exhaled, "I honestly thought it was some kind of Alien".
Interesting to note the her hero male colleague was at least 20 paces behind her walking at a pace worthy of a Snail on crutches. |

Philip,
What a delightful story. Please give my best to Jazz! (To Anne as well, should you think of it.) _________________ Be well,

I'm sure this story will end up on the front page of the Portgordon Gazzette. |
