Aloha Gang,

It has been awhile since I introduced my self in July. Sorry about that, but I am really only now getting serious.

Anyway, I have searched the forum quite a bit so as to not replicate any questions, but I haven't found my answers.....

When I decided to get back into this I thought, I might dip my toe in the pond with a Berhinger Podcast Studio... It came complete. Berhinger Xnyx 802, C-1 condenser mic, FCA2 Firewire interface.....so I thought I was set.

It did not take long to realize I was not......so to make a long story short,

Here is where I am in the process now. I now have an AKG 3000B mic, Tascam VL-A5 active studio monitors.....and then the Berhinger stuff. I want to get rid of the Xenyx802 because it is noisy. In reading the "Voice Actors guide to recording at home and on the road" I got some good ideas...and I think I have narrowed it down to the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 OR the Mackie Onyx 820i ( which won't be released for another couple of weeks)

May I have some input on that? ( No pun intended)

Also, I am trying to decide on software. I have Audacity.......I don't like it, but I cannot put my finger on why. Not enough bells and whistles? I have downloaded Sound Forge Studio 9 trial. ( don't care for it because when one hits record, another box comes up and you cannot see your wave form until you are done. Why that is important to me I don't know. ) I am also trying Reaper which seems like a pretty powerful DAW, except I cannot seem to get a waveform big enough to edit properly.

So I am wondering about Audition?

My apologies for such a long winded post.

Audition is very good. Can't go wrong there.

For an interface, I like the tc electronic konnekt 6.
Very stable. Great headphone amp and monitor controller.
The preamp is very good. It's like it was made for voice-over work.
Everything you need in a cool little box.

Couple it with Audition and you'll have some processing power.

That is serious overkill if you want it only for VO work. Try the smaller Focusrite Saffire LE. 4 in, 6 outs, (6 and 8 incl spdif) headphone out and the routing matrix is extremely flexible. The digital conversion is also exceptionally good for a unit in this price range.

I can't think of a recorder that will do that (properly) drawing waveforms takes a reasonable amount of your PC's power and could affect your recording, so it's not necessarily a good thing. A good level meter is much better to check your signal, which Sound Forge has. I don't know about Reaper, but sound forge can zoom in on waveforms to a great degree while editing.

Don't overlook Adobe Soundbooth. $100 cheaper and still has the important features, plus some cool ones Audition does not. And it is Mac OS compatible!
