Is it just me or is this a dumb idea? a non-union audition for the health care industry with the following caveat: usage would be:

Quote:
buyout in perpetuity. Advertising purposes in all media (excluding print), including without limitation, free-tv, pay-tv, cable, industrial, internet and new media platforms including digital & electronic media.

Granted, the pay is a decent chunk of change, but 30 years from now when I'm auditioning for Acme Hospital's new advertising campaign and "healthcare" shows up on the list of conflicts...theoretically I'd have to to turn it down.

Am I stupid for not auditioning for this?

I suppose the obvious comment is that you are not obliged to list/disclose any conflicts unless the original client specifies you are NOT to work for another healthcare provider or the new client makes the same stipulation. Either way when a contract states you are to turn down work because ....Insert the reason ....then you must be able to quantify how much work you are likely to turn away and part of your payment is compensation.

look at the bright side. at least they promise not to use your voice in print.

seriously, if you're expected to sell your voice to one client for life, make sure it's enough to retire on.

I've signed quite a few contracts for film and video like that but they were usually limited to saying "all film and video media". In my earlier years they'd add "throughout the World", but some of the latest ones had "the World and the Known Universe". They're either being funny, or know something we don't.

You know, I haven't been worried about buyouts too much, especially if they don't exclude you from doing other work, because most ad material gets dated looking or sounding pretty quickly so they're not likely to run it into the next couple of decades, but there are exceptions. There's a tire chain out here called Discount Tire and 34 years ago they filmed a TV spot where the actress and the VO were hired on a small buyout. They're still running it. The talent still isn't getting paid from my understanding.

Here's a link to the spot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QjTIm-vSKg

plus, the health care industry likely won't exist as we know it so they'll need updates!
