|
|
Well, here's a voiceover buyer who knows both ends of the spectrum very well. The buyer is me. I've been listening (or trying) to Spanish language demos for a client of mine. I know exactly what they want, if I could get three or four demos to play for them, I'd be really happy.
I have a very fast internet connection. I have a ramped up notebook so things should pretty much blaze right thru...right?
Voices.com. I start listening to demos. Yes, only five or six seconds is all I need to hear. About 60% of the ones I try to play wont play. Cutsey player, but that doesn't help me. After about three pages of talents, I give up.
V123: since my speakers are up after about five or ten seconds, i get a "welcome to out website" message, "If you'd like to turn this message off.."
DESPERATELY.. "look in the upper right corner" I'm looking for the usual start, stop button. Nope. It's a banner. Never mind - I'm already off the site.
Next it's a Google search. In an hour of searching, I've found three demos, and one of them I've worked with in the past, but I know it's not the right fit. I hit about a half dozen sites that are Flash based. I'm patient. I wait 30 seconds. They're still loading. I'm gone.
So I guess the moral of the story is - take a look at not only your own site, but other sites that have demos or that link to you. Do it on a regular basis. Make sure everything works. Try at different times of day on different computers. Not everyone is going to see or experience it the same way you do in your studio at home.
OK..deep breath...exhale..

SO sorry for your troubles....
FYI: On my resources page I have links to several Spanish speaking VO's (some who are VO-BBers)...I believe the links all work!

Ron
Here is another possibility. Take this link http://savoa.org/members/ to our Membership page. There you will find about five top notch Spanish VO artists.
Click on their name to go to their web site. Some have demos hosted on that page just click the demo button. _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"

ron...
so you mean on top of all the other obstacles we face auditioning through voices.com the auditions don't play 60% of the time?
i'm not a spanish-language talent, but this concerns me just the same. _________________ rowell gormon

Rowell, it could be. Would absolutely pay to check it. Here's exactly what I did: I ran a search for Spanish VO, and then, knowing how Voices indexes their talent, I went to the very back of the list to try and hear some folks that might not get heard every time. Maybe I was starting and stopping the flash players too much. Like I said, I only needed to hear a few seconds.
I think my original point was, on some of these sites if you register as a buyer instead of a talent and go in that way, it's a whole different experience.
@everybody else: thanks for the empathy. I think I may have found someone. There's two or three layers of approvals it has to go thru, but it's all good. _________________ "When I was your age, we had to dial to get online"
