I'm trying out DUY's Valve plug-in for 14 days but not sure how to use it. I assume Input dB controls input gain ...but what about the 'dB pusher' control? Maybe this should be obvious. Any ideas? Can't seem to find a manual on their site. Thx!

Probably the drive to the tube. The harder you push the db pusher the more tube sound you get.
It's a guess.

if you look at some of the hardware tube pre amps out there, there's usually a knob that will crank the amount of "tube" or "warmth"..... I'm sure your "Pusher" knob is the same thing......

if you are trying to emulate something like an Avalon with one of these plug ins, it's not gonna happen. Usually these tube emulators are used by guitar players looking to emulate that vintage "tube" grunge..

when this plug in came out around 8 years or so it was unique, but now, there are quite a few others out there like it

Thanks! That makes sense. I like the way it thickens things up when needed...adds a little beef. Or should I go for a real tube?

for the price of that plug in, there a any number of hardware units out there that can actually do what that software is trying to emulate....

Grace, Groove Tubes, Focusrite...all make tube pre amps in the under $500 range..

I've even heard of people using the Studio Projects VTB1, (around $100) with some success.

DUY has a 50% off sale right now until Nov 15. EverPack sells for something like $213.00, which includes Valve and some other spiffy plugs (that I may or may not every use).

Where would I use Valve in my processing? Before compression and limiting? What order?

Since it's a coloration effect and similiar to a sonic enhancer, if it was me I would probably get your signal the way you like it with your comp/limiter and then throw the DUY Valve on the master bus....or send your main VO to a bus/aux track with the DUY Valve inserted there.....with the latter you would have much more control of how much of the actual signal you are "coloring" with the DUY.
