Hey there,
I've been lucky enough the past month to perform well-paying voice-overs for 2 German clients. One of them has been kind enough to pass along a few referrals for me to pursue. Problem is, I really know next to nothing about the VO biz in Europe, and can't find anything through a search of this forum.
Here are a few random questions:
1) Are voice-over demos different (in terms of length, content, etc) for the European market compared to the US market?
2) Are there talent agencies in Europe that represent American voice talent? If so, who are they?
3) Can anyone point me to a resource for finding European production companies and ad agencies that I can market myself to?
4) Any "Dos and Don'ts" that this hopefully-NOT-Ugly-American should be aware of before marketing my services to European clients?
I look forward to being enlightened. Thank you! _________________ Best regards,

Hi Tom!
1) Are voice-over demos different (in terms of length, content, etc) for the European market compared to the US market?
Yes, American types demos are FAR better and everyone loves them. I changed mine to the American style and it improved my success rate greatly.
2) Are there talent agencies in Europe that represent American voice talent? If so, who are they?
All my UK agents only want to represent talent who live in London. They haven't dropped me when I moved because they've known me for 10 years and I've got the ISDN. I haven't really been successful at finding agents in other countries, but you can find production companies that will add you to their talent pool and get regular work this way.
There may be agents who fill accept American based talents, I just don't know them.
3) Can anyone point me to a resource for finding European production companies and ad agencies that I can market myself to?
google
4) Any "Dos and Don'ts" that this hopefully-NOT-Ugly-American should be aware of before marketing my services to European clients?
not that I know of (I mean other than the dos and don't that also apply in America).
good luck! _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

Thanks Claire! That is helpful info.
I'm about to send an e-mail to these referrals. I think I'll ask for permission to submit a demo, rather than just send an attachment. I do not have ISDN and have no plans to get it, though living in Chicago I have plenty of local options, some that are reasonably priced.
Are there any unions for voice-over artists in Europe? Or is everyone non-union? _________________ Best regards,
